If I open and email that is in the Outbox and then click Send, it closes but does not change to an italic fomatted email in Outbox and will not send.

The only way I have found around this is Forwarding the message. Is this a bug in Outlook 2003???

Hi William,
I think that I have the same think.
I use Outlook 2003 on WinXP. My editor is Word 2003.
If I am online when I "send" a new message from Word it seems to work OK. BUT, if the email ever gets into my Outbox it stays there for ever! Even on line, if I re-open the message and "Send" from Word it cycles through the send dialoque but the b****y message stays in the OutBox!!!. If, when on line I "Send/Receive" from Outlook, it goes through the send/receive dialogue but the Out Boxed message remains!!
What am I doing wrong??
Many thanks in advance,

Did you try viewing another folder before sending?

OK, that works. So if you edit a message in Outbox, click onto another folder (like Inbox) before clicking Send.

Hi Sue,
That doesn't work in my case. Anything that goes into Outbox stays there forever. If I move the message to Drafts, then open it abs send from word it sometimes works but other times it gets dumped right back into Outbox.

Once a message goes from italicized to non-italics in the Outbox, you must
resend it before it will be delivered. Open the message, switch from the
Outbox to some other folder, then click Send. And don't go back to the
Outbox!

If you are seeing messages turn from italicized to non-italics in the
Outbox, try turning off the add-ins that you find in Tools | Options | Other
| Advanced Options | COM Add-ins, and then turning them on one-by-one to see
if one of those add-ins is causing this problem.

Thanks Sue,
I will try it and let you know.

Hi Sue,
The only add-in that was listed was the norton anti-spam add-in. Turning it
off did not seem to make any difference. I can still work around the problem
by going on line, moving the message from outbox to drafts, opening the
message in word and then sending it. Most of the time this works OK but
sometimes the b****y thing just pops back into the black hole called outbox.

Did you try what I suggested: Open the message, switch from the Outbox to
some other folder, then click Send. And don't go back to the Outbox!

The most likely cause of what you're seeing is that an Outlook add-in is
changing the items that you select in the Outbox and making them unsent. If
you're not looking at the Outbox when you send an item, the selection will
be elsewhere and the item can be delivered to the mail server during your
next send/receive session.
