Has anyone come across this. An email will be sent ot me and it will not
appear in my inbox unless I click onto a different folder and then suddenly it
will appear.

We are using Outlook 2000 (SP3) and MS Exchange 5.5 (SP4)

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a few users that are experiencing the same symptons. We are still on
Outlook 98. The client machines are XP SP2.
Note that not all the users have this problem. Only about 5 out of 30.

Any help will be great...

Brian,

The above link takes me to a Microsoft Knowledge base with around 250
entries re: UDP. Do you know if I am looking for anything inparticularly. I
found a patch (Q329415enui386.exe) for Exchnage 5.5 but this doesn't seem to
have fixed the problem.

Can you help?

Thanks,
Andy

Since only you know your exact configuration, only you can tell which
article applies, but it's most likely one of the first three or four.

The most frequent cause is a firewall blocking UDP packets.

The problem you're having is that the information (called "UDP packets")
that Exchange is sending to notify Outlook of changes to your mailbox is
being blocked by something - probably the Windows Internet Connection
Firewall. You can set the registry values in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q305572 (Outlook
2002) or http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q304849
(Outlook 2000) to cause Outlook to poll Exchange rather than waiting for
notifications.
