Hello,

I am using outlook express6 with 6 email accounts. One of the email
addresses is mailing out messages that have a virus attachment.
In the message body there is usually a 'Annie' or 'Christine' suggesting to
open the attachment 'if you wnat to know more about me'.
How can I stop this? My computer is clean. Outlook strips the attachment on
my incoming messages. Other people have contacted me that they are receiving
the virus messages.

Thank you, skye

Your machine is not sending out the virused emails. I assume you have anti
virus software and that you have scanned your system and found no virus.
What has actually happened is a hacker is, as you put it, hijacking your
email address and inserting the email address as a 'return' address. I have
the same problem with one of my hotmail addresses.
Without actually tracing the culprit there is not a lot that can be done. I
usually get around 10 or 12 'mail returned' emails per day. Not a lot, i
know, but i simply delete them without opening them. It may be a callous way
of looking at things but, i know i haven't sent out virused mail and,
presumably, you do to. If someone has hijacked your email address, other
than cancelling the email address and creating another one i can't see a way
around the problem. Maybe someone will come up with a fool proof method?

Someone who has your email address in his address book is infected. The
files do not originate from your computer. If you view all header info from
the file you may be able to determine what geographic area the files
originate from and that should give you an idea of who is infected.
