I have downloaded and installed two different gadgets for checking email,
but I am experiencing a problem regardless of which one I use. When I wake
up the computer, the gadget freezes during its first email check and the
only fix for it I have found is to delete the gadget from the sidebar and
then add it again.

Does anybody know what may be causing this and what to do about it?
Thanks for any help.

What are you really hoping to do? Get a message you have mail without
opening your mail program?

Yes. These gadgets periodically check your mail server to see if you have
any new mail and if so they display the number of new messages. They do not
actually download the messages.

I usually have them set to check every ten minutes. The first email check
after wake-up, regardless of how many minutes later it is, will freeze the
gadget. This happens whether or not there are any new messages. At any
other time the gadgets work properly.

In other words, they are not part of Vista or supported by MS.

If your main objective is to get a notification that you have mail I'd
suggest you just set your email client (I see you are using Windows Mail) to
start up automatically and notify you...

I use some gadgets too however I use Eprompter to check for email. This
not only checks POP3 and other downloadable mail it also checks and
downloads many webmail sites such as mail.com, hotmail, and others.

Thanks for the info about Eprompter. It works well and has all the features
I want - and then some. It also frees up sidebar space for another gadget!
