After installing Vista (32bit), I was surprised to see the dual-core start-up
window. I wanted to keep many of my files when i installed Vista. I have
no need to run XP and want my pc to start up exclusively in Vista. Can the
dual-core start up be safely removed and how?

Hi,

Sure, run msconfig and delete the XP boot entry on the boot tab. Then, you
can delete the core files for the XP installation from Windows Explorer.

I went to msconfig to the boot tab however it only shows MS Windows Vista
(C:\Windows):Current OS;Default OS and nothing about XP. Shall I continue
with the rest of your insturctions, removing core files from XP?

Thanks, I found an easier solution. I went to Control Panel> System and
Maintainance>> System >> Advanced System Settings (On left tab), then select
Advanced from the tab and click Settings in Startup and Recovery ... uncheck
Time to display list of Operating systems. Only Vista boots now which is
what I wanted.

Hi,

You can, and you can also use bcdedit from an elevated command prompt to
remove the other identifier.

you can also use either bcdedit or VistaBootPro to change that timing value as well for the next time it is needed.
