hi
i followed the TD's help and made an el torito cd. when the my unit boot
from cdrom, it shows the following message after POST and then hangs.

boot from cdrom:
1. HD System Type(-0F)

i verified the CD according to el torito cd specification and read the
boot catalog as below, i think the system type should be 04 but not 0f,
what' wrong with it.

00: 01 00 00 00 4D 69 63 72 6F 73 6F 66 74 20 43 6F ;....Microsoft Co

can anybody help?

thanks!

It should be 0F.

Not sure where it hangs exactly.

Make boot.ini that have two entries. And some timeout like 30 seconds. This will allow us to determine if problem is with BIOS or
disk preparation. (Disk burning software perhaps).
Or with XPe itself.

thanks for your reply!

# i redid the cd as you suggested, it reports "disk error" after show "1. HD
System Type(-0F)"

# i also failed to boot iso image using vmware(4.5)

# i'm sure that the bios support "no emulation" and "floppy emulation" mode
specified by el torito cd spec

# i use nero 6 to buring the cd

i suspect it's a bios compatible issue, but don't know how to prove it. how
do you think?

thanks!

Hi,

You must prepare El-torito with MS tool hd2iso.exe. There is a bug in this tool so it will allow only to first partition grabbed
from HDD to be bootable. Although it offer you options to rearrange partitions, etc.

And don't touch default settings in hd2iso tool.

So make sure that you have whole empty HDD for XPe and that you use first partition with hd2iso tool.

Best regards,
Slobodan

PS: Nero is working just fine for recording image.
