editing registry

I downloaded an evaluation copy of WinRAR 3.7. I'm trying to edit the
registry key following the RARLabs instructions, but am getting a failure
message. Basically, it says to import the binary within regedit. I'm
waiting on instructions from RARLabs, but they're located in Germany. Any
help beyond backing up the Registry would be helpful. I'm not afraid to
tinker around with the Regstry provided I have some
clue(s) as to what's going on.

Use ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) to backup the registry:

Tell us what exactly you want to change and the exact error message?.
Try your Changes in safe Mode and preferably to log as Admin to perform this
operation.
