Is it possible to show that a message in an Outlook 2002 Inbox has
been edited by the receiver, if provided with the PST file which would
have the original message header etc?

Is it possible to edit the date the message was received, but have
that edit undetected?

Peter

Unless the message has been signed there are always ways to edit it in a way
that will be hard to track whether it has been modified or not. Just
curious; why do you want to know?

We are attempting to determine the validity of a number of emails for
a legal case. How would one re-date the date an email was received?
We know that any modifications appear to only change the "modified
date", which can be explained by the user simply claiming that he
flagged the email or moved the email on those dates. However, there
are emails on certain dates when non should have arrived. How was
this done?

Peter

An import from another application (like Outlook Express) is enough to
modify this date. Bug or feature? Who knows? (we consider it a bug though)
Fact is that unless a message is digitally signed it can be tampered with.
This is true for all e-mail applications; not just Outlook.

Well the sending date doesn't have to correspond with the received date.
Also an import from messages from OE will change the received date. So
unless they are singed there are always ways to modify it.
