Edit restrictions in a Table

I can't seem to figure out how to allow or restrict in different cells of a
table.
Cell 1 => Heading; restrict
Cell 2 => Free Form text; allow
Cell 3 => Check box; allow (edits to checkbox only - Filling in Forms)
Is this possible?

Although you didn't say, I assume you're working in Word 2003. The answer is
no, not directly -- you can use "Filling in forms" protection or "No changes
(Read only)" protection, but not both in the same document.

If you need check boxes, then you'll have to stick with Forms protection. In
turn, that means you'll need to make three separate tables and insert
section breaks between them (because section breaks can't occur inside a
table). Then you can click the "Select sections" link that appears below the
dropdown in the Protect Document task pane, and uncheck section 2 to allow
the free text entry in the middle table.

An alternative would be to replace the Forms check boxes with the
macrobutton/AutoText solution described at
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Add_Toggle_Objects.htm. Then you could use "No
changes" protection and not Forms protection.

Thank you (and yes, it's 2003).
