Does anyone know how to change the "ecp" printer port to
either "normal" or "bi-directional"? I change it in setup
before Win 2000 loads, but it is apparently changing it
back to "ecp" upon loading.

Thank you in advance.

You may not be saving the BIOS port mode properly. Normally, I would delete
the ECP parallel port in windows, usually in safe mode. Then, reboot, change
the BIOS setting to the desired one, save, and exit the BIOS setup to a
windows boot. Automatic install of the parallel port should occur. If not,
it can usually be forced manually.

This can also occur if a driver for a device other than the printer is
present. Some of the older Zip drivers and possibly a parallel scanner
driver can change a parallel port mode.
