The most likely cause is a virus on somebody _else's_ computer that is
sending emails out from _their_ system. These infections will randomly grab
an email address from the address book on the infected machine and use that
to forge a from:
In a nutshell, this _does_ indicate the activity of a worm or a virus but

I have been having this problem too. Somtimes there is a substantial
number, say 5-10, other times very few. I do not recognise any of the
addresses and do not have them in my Address Book. Naturally suspicious I
have always completely deleted them.
I have always downloaded the latest critical updates from Windows and my
Norton Anti-Virus software has not detected any virus, nor some recently
applied "free" sample antivirus from the web.
In my ignorance I ask if the ISP is at fault here or is there something
intrinsic with Outlook Express?
