when I send a scanned attachment it is broken down into multiple units..the
recievers tell me they get multiple messages from me that they can not
understand, and the attachment is not received.

How large is this scanned file? Scans are usually pretty large (at least
several megabytes) and 1) there are limits to how large a file most
ISP's will let you send/receive in email; and 2) if your recipients have
dialup they will hate you.

More details from you as to 1) what you are sending; 2) how large it is;
3) what email program you use; and 4) how you connect to the Internet
(method and ISP) will help us give you focused troubleshooting.

Also, were you ever able to send similar attachments successfully? If
yes, what changed?

Actually the standard definition of an email attachment is a separate
message. Apparently your email program (you haven't told us what that
is) is set up to do things this way by default. Someplace in the
options should be a way to control this, and to tell it to include
attachments in the original message.

Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<paste>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

Why ask here? The OS has ZERO capabillity to send/receive email.

Ask in a group that specializes in YOUR email program.

Not true. Oulook Express is part of Windows XP, and Outlook Express can send
and receive E-mail.
Ask in a group that specializes in YOUR email program.

However, that's good advice. Even if Leo's E-mail program is Outlook
Express, he's likely to get more and better help with OE issues in an OE
newsgroup than here.
