E-mail logon is OK, network is not

We have a situation where I work in which one user cannot log on to the
network (LAN), but can log on to get his e-mail. With everybody else it is
the same logon username and password for the LAN as for the e-mail.
For a little background, we are in the process of moving the network to a
new server. I am on the periphery of the process (although I field
questions and do research into errors sometimes), but since I am in charge
of managing records and other data I am anxious to see us migrate to the new
server. For one thing, the two servers have different names, so all of the
links will need to be changed (hyperlinks to network location in Word
documents, database back ends, etc.). The fewer links I need to change, the
better.
The difficulty is that neither the user nor the administrator can log on to
the new server from his machine. However, the e-mail log on is the same
username and password as for the new server, which works fine for this user.
Any thoughts on what to look for regarding the inability to log on to the
new server? I realize this is a very sketchy description of the situation,
but I don't have much information. What information do I need to provide in
order to help pinpoint the problem?

I would check the DNS first.

Thanks for the suggestion. Our network person says he already checked that.
The problem is that this person could get onto the new network with no
problem until about a week ago.
