I'm just playing with FrontPage 2003 for the first time and quite impressed.

The Dynamic Web Templates are a welcome addition - but I can't get them to
work correctly. When I make a change to a template and attempt to save it,
it tells me that there are files attached and asks me if I want to update
them now. Fine. I reply "Yes" and it attempts to update but shows a message
like "Updating http://Steve/xxxx 2 Files Total 0 Files Updated 0 Files
Skipped Total Time (xxx)"

If I open the attached pages, I am able to update them via Format/Dynamic
Web Templates/Update Selected Page.

Any thoughts on why the automatic updating is not taking place, please.

I've tried everything, but still can't get changes to the DWT to update all
attached pages.

Has anybody got any idea whether J-Bots could be the culprit. They're the
only thing I've got installed over the standard clean install of Office
2003?

Thanks
Steve

The FP2003 DWT "Update All Pages" function works against disk-based sites,
and sites on servers running SharePoint Team Services or Windows SharePoint
Services. It does not work on sites running the FP 2002 server extensions.

Thanks Kathleen. You would have thought they would say something about that
in the Help and instructions.

Two questions then, please:

1) I assume that it's only neccessary to be running SharePoint on the
authoring machine. I'm hosting on a Linux server with FP2002 extensions, but
assume that once the pages are 'updated' that there's no problem not having
SharePoint on both machines.
2) Is SharePoint included as part of the MS Office Outlook 2003 distribution
CD-ROM? I keep my CDs at home for security, so cant check at the moment.

Thanks
STeve

There's a problem using DWTs with server-based Webs,
because even the most recent version of the FrontPage
Server Extensions (2002) predates DWTs. As a result, the
extensions don't have a good cross-references of pages
that attach each template. And without this cross-
reference, FrontPage doesn't know which pages to update.

This problem doesn't occur with disk-based Webs.

On a server-based Webs:

1. Chose View, Reports, Shared Content, Dynamic Web
Templates.
2. Click the Dynamic Web Temnplate column heading to
sort on that column.
3. Select all the files that use the template you just
updated.
4. Choose Dynamic Web Template from the Tools menu, and
then choose Updated Selected Page.
