dynamic file name lookup

Does anyone know how to use a cells value to determine a
file name to link a corresponding cell. For example,
using a standard format "Xfile.xls", if a predetermined
cell value was "4", the cell containing the formula would
reference the file, "4file.xls". This seems like a
relatively simple concept, but it's racking my brain
trying to find a solution!
