All,

I have used Frontpage themes for years with no problems. Now that I have
fp2003 i can no longer place "glow buttons" in my shared borders. After
doing some research I see that it is recommended that you use dynamic
templates for this effect. Now after bangin my head against the desk for the
better part of a week, I am very much baffled. This whole thing seems to be
for having "editable regions" meaning others can also edit my page? No,
really, I'm not interested in that, at all. I don't want others monkeying
around with my site. Should I still use these templates or stick with the
themes?

Please don't flame, I know that I am not web-savey.

Thanks,
RF

I know is'nt it wonderful? Your now encouraged to use 'Interactive buttons'
which are in Insert | web componet | dynamic effects, you can find lots of
help in the help about them. (will wrap cut and paste)

FrontPage hover buttons are not accessible to everyone, often break down and
can load a page down, with your new fp03 you can now move forward, this is a
good move to make.

No it does not mean that others can edit your site ... it means that you
have regions on your site that if you edit them .. the changes you make will
show up on every page the editable region appears on ..... much like a theme
really only ten times better.

Should I still use these templates or stick with the
themes?

My advice is always to move forward to I'd think about learning how to make
templates of your own, though you don't have to use dwt's.

OK,
I have created a dwt, i named it "index.dwt". It looks good, but i have yet
to attch the template to any of my linked pages. I uploaded the whole web
with no problem, however, I could not get to the index. I guess I still
needed an "index.htm", and uploaded it. So I created on which was the same
as my other "index" and fine, now I can get to it.
Here's the problem though, when I went to "attach" the dwt to one of my
pages, it just copied the entire page(template) to the bottom of my linked
page, (not just the "editable regions, either). The whole "index.dwt" has
been pasted to the bottom of my other page.

Where did I go wrong, or would it be easier to tell me where I went right?
:(

You must apply the DWT to you pages as you create them, not after they have been created.

I have loaded that page with the template set, now, another problem, I am
trying to add DHTML animation to some text and I am getting an error that
indicates that I cannot do this because the page contains scripts. Now I
used to use those all the time, is this now something that can no longer be
used???

When using DWT's you need to set an editable region for any unique areas you will be adding to on your pages using the DWT
In the HEAD section add an editable region in the DWT for scripts
<!-- #BeginEditable "scripting" -->
-- Your page unique scripts go here
<!-- #EndEditable -->

That being said, the FP DHTML animations write to the <Body> tag, so unless your main editable region include the body tag, you can
only apply them globally to your DTW page

For some more tips on DWT see http://www.sharepointcustomization.com/wss/articles/dwt.htm
