DVDRW swap and RAID controller

I just swapped a Sony DRU510A for a DRU530A. After rebooting, XP
opened a window to install a RAID controller, which did not properly
install and now I have a RAID Controller listed with a yellow question
mark in Device Manager.

I only have a vague idea what a RAID controller is. Everything on the
system seems to be working. When I uninstalled the RAID controller
from Device Manager, I again got a new device wizard on reboot.

Thanks very much for any suggestions on getting rid of the yellow
question marked RAID controller in Device Manager.

it appears because windows is detecting your raid
controller, and from the looks of it, you're not using it.
what board do you have? you might be able to disable raid
in the bios. i was able to disable my sata raid controller
in the bios of my nf7-s.

I have an Intel 845EBG2. Any idea why just swapping an optical drive
would have done this?

Thanks.

my guess would be swapping somehow reset the bios, but that
doesn't seem likely. i'm not sure why that happened.

does disabling raid fix the problem?

Actually anytime you plug cards in/out or add hardware or even take the
cover off a PC the bios may be reset to defaults.

Well, I went into the BIOS and didn't find anything related to RAID.
I did, however, switch "Plug and Play OS?" from "No" to "Yes". I'm no
longer getting an unrecognized RAID Controller and I now have a
recognized Promise Ultra IDE Controller in Device Manager.

Thank you very much for suggesting an exploration of the BIOS.
