DVDdrive background noise

i have a system with a dvd writer and a dvd rom. Shortly after receiving the system, when ever you opened or closed the dvd writer, it caused a loud buzz/click through the speakers. After phoning the support line, i moved the audio connection to the dvd rom. It solved the noise, but now 2 months later, its started on this drive. Also while playing a cd or dvd you can hear a constant clicking/interference sound through the speakers. Moving the cable to the other drive causes the problem on that drive. Can anyone help, everything else works fine.

Sounds like electrical interference on the cables to the speakers from the
soundcard. I know it's hard with all the cables that now seem to emanate
from every single PC, but try to ensure the cables from the speakers to the
PC are not close to any others (or each other).

Ive been experimenting. I diconnected the speakers and used headphones. Still received background noise. I opened up the case and untied and re-routed all the cables so the audio cable was separate. No joy. Decided to swap the dvd drives over in the drive bays so the dvd-rom was on top. No joy although the problem seems to be isolated to the dvd-rom drive now. Moved audio cable to dvd-writer, only noise on the dvd-rom. Used dvd cleaner disk again on both drives. No joy
The system reports the drive is working properly, which it is on all media, except for the background (scratched vinyl record) noise. Any more suggestions please, this is baffling me.
