A while back I bought a Panasonic DVD Writer (-R / RAM) and was
unable to get it working. Basically although it was recognised by the
BIOS and the OS (XP Pro SP1) it would not recognise ANY media.
Thinking it was faulty I returned it to the supplier and got a refund.
The other day I decided to bite the bullet again and bought a LG
GMA420B -R/-RW/RAM DVD Writer only to get exactly the same problems. I
haven't installed any 3rd party drivers - just swapped it for my
existing Hitachi GD-2500 DVD-ROM and let it install the built in XP
drivers, but no matter what type of media I try to use I get the same
error - "Please Insert Disk..." when trying to open it from windows
explorer. Device Manager says it's working, I've removed my second IDE
controller, my CD Writer and all of the hard disks apart from the
primary, but it still won't work. I even went thru the process of
deleting ALL CD & DVD drives from Device Manager, including
"NONPRESENT_DEVICES". I'm all out of ideas now, so any help would be
much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
