My Pioneer 105 has been working fine for a year but for the last month or
so sometimes when I put a cdr/dvdr into the drive my computer freezes or
even reboots. Could it be a software issue? I'm suspecting it's about to
give up for good. I've swopped the ide cable it's on and it happens not
only with blank but also with preburnt disks, any help would be
appreciated.

First try cleaning the lens, make sure that the cleaning kit is OK for
rewriters.

I have had drives that won't read any disks other than 'propper' pressed
ones and the cure was a new drive. Hope you have better luck.
