Hi:
When I attempted to burn by using DVD-rom, it didn't
burn. Later, I found that DVD-rom is 'read' only.

Then, I can copy but can NOT burn.

Do I need to purchase DVD-burner?
I prefer 'external' DVD-burner.
What do you suggest for purchase of DVD-burner?
My computer is XP with IE6 manufactured by HP.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi MapleE,
ROM means Read Only Memory so yes, a DVD-ROM only reads and cannot write.
You need to purchase a DVD writer or 'burner' and these have come down in
price quite a lot. Shop around your computer shops and ask them.... there
are several makes and some are better than others. My present DVD writer is
a Philips and (unlike a previous very cheap one) it doesn't make a lot of
noise and I have no trouble with it at all. A DVD writer usually comes with
writing software such as Nero. Just a tip, when writing to a CD or DVD, if
you have the choice it is (in my opinion) best not to choose the fastest
writing speed that your inserted disk can take.

Hi John:
Thanks for the response.

I searched here, on the Internet and saw one seems
to fit to my needs. I want to burn mostly photos,
programs, and the like. Nothing too significant to
burn. Only everyday's stuff, but there are many,
many photos I need to burn.
