I just recently installed the sp2 for xp prof. ever since then i have been
having problems with my dvd-rom drive (lite-on 163d). It will read the cd i
insert, but when i eject it and place a different cd in or a different dvd in
it still shows the content of first cd i place in there....what is going on?

Maybe a little bit of patience will help. Eject the
disc by using the software eject in My Computer or
Windows Explorer instead of the manual eject button.
This should give sufficient time for the cache to
flush before the eject mechanism is triggered.

If symptoms persist, then verify that the proper
drivers have been installed. If problems continue,
replace the DVD drive cable and, finally, the DVD
drive itself, if necessary.

Don't rely on what drivers are in the SP-2 !386 bundle to operate the DVD or
the Video cards that have not been "Approved" by Microsoft. I have a
conflict after loading and cannot uninstall SP-2 on 3 fronts>
DVD-ROM(Ultima), Creative Soundblaster sound card and nVidia g4mx420 video
card! Count yourself lucky that you at least are able to listen to your CD's!
Oh and bytheway~ that Other DVD I have/had that burned DVD's/CD's or
MP-2/3's....IT won't work either....All In all I think that Win. XP- home
edition with the New improved SP-2 is a Theif! I had a Great system till the
Programers got their hands on the tweeks!

Since sp2, there have been a lot of firmware updates. Check to see if
that model has such an update...then flash it if there is one.

Have a nice one...

Ironically, SP2 is supposed to "fix" the issue and in your case it started
after installing Sp2.

Follow these steps.

Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE). Just type that program name into the
box after choosing "Run" from the Start menu.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom.
Double-click the Autorun value, and type 1 for its value. (If it's not
there, create it by selecting Edit -> New -> DWORD Value, and typing
"Autorun" for its name.)
You may have to log out and then log back in for this change to take effect.
