dvd-rom issue

I'm running XP Pro and just installed an older model
Creative 5X DVDROM. Windows recognises it, auto loads the
driver and even displays the correct devise name, however
it does not operate as a dvdrom, it doesn't even
recognise a DVD when I put one in. The Creative website
recommends the windows driver and doesn't offer a
downloadable driver. how do I get this thing working?

Open XP's "Help and Support" and type: DVD , and hit enter.
Click on the topic titled: "DVD Troubleshooting".

Try reinstalling your DVD decoder. If you don't have one, you'll
need to purchase and install one. Some suggestions:

Direct DVD
