What is the difference between the DVD-R and DVD+R disc's?

thanks

.
I wondered about this also I asked the clerk at Staples
and he was no help.
What I found out was there are 3 types of Dvd.Dvd-R,Dvd+R
and Dvd-Ram.
Dvd-r must be formatted before use
Dvd+r formats on the fly
Dvd-Ram has larger capacity and can be rewritten up to
10,000 times.
This is recordable Dvds.I did not know when I tried to
record a Dvd so I brought Dvd+ and they did'nt work.I
then tried Dvd- and they work fine.

DVD-R does not need to be formatted prior to use. The difference between
the two is the lead-in and lead-outs are written differently between the two
formats. The data structure is slightly different also. There is much
debate over which format is most "compatible", but with the proliferation of
dual- and multi format drives, it is no longer a consideration. I have a
Sony DRU-500 which reads/writes and rewrites in both formats. I prefer
the -R, as the format seems to be more "universal". YMMV.
