dvd playback

Hi, hope someone can help
I have a fujitsu-siemens amilo laptop with dvd/cd rewriter.
Its celeron 1100,ram increased to 384, s3 savage twister graphics (uses 8 meg virtual memory I think)
The problem is movie playback is jerky and unacceptable.

any ideas? (apart from internet access movie playback was the reason I bought the thing)

try disabling any background apps, it's not the fastest machine in the world, a bit of TLC required i think!
