I have just installed a dvd drive but windows isn't detecting it. I have got
it as a master and a second cd-rom drive as the slave. I have checked the dvd
drive on another computer so it is working properly. Is there something else
that i need to do??
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Thank you

Try a different Ribbon (Data) Cable. Make sure that you have that IDE
channel ( Primary or Secondary ) enabled in the Bios. You didnt say if the
cd-rom drive shows up Ok.

I'm pretty sure the IDE cable is ok I had a previous cd rom drive on it. The
dvd rom comes up fine in the bios but doesn't seem to be detected by windows.
And yes the cd-rom drive shows up and works fine. Windows is also taking alot
longer to load up now.

Graeme, try the Dvd Drive as Master by itself on the Primary IDE
channel. Are you using cable select for both drives?

Rich, I have my hard drive as the master on the primary ide channel. Will
that be a problem, and what do you mean by using cable select??
