DVD Drive Shows as CD Drive

I have been unable to play my dvd's on my dvd drive. I uninstalled the
driver, and when i added new hardware the plug and play search showed that it
first found my dvd drive and installed it, then it installed it as a cd-rom
drive. In properties it shows that it is using all the cd drivers, that my
cd drive is using....HELP, I KNOW IT MUST HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE
WINDOWS REGISTRY.......I AM EXHAUSTED, TRYING TO FIND AN ANSWER TO THIS ONE.
