DVD drive missing

my DVD drive (on a laptop running XP Pro, the original OS) isn't listed in my computer or device manager. when I open the DVD player, it says it can't find any DVD or CD device. it's not a burner so I don't have roxio. I have tried a few registry fixes but with no success. any suggestions?
 
It's very likely that the DVD is broken....
Try your hardware repair shop...
