Running XP Pro.

If I am in the wrong place, you can tell me where to go!!! But I can't
find the answer to my problem. A week or so ago, both my CD(LG) and
DVD(Lite-on) drives refused to run. I can go to My Computer and explore
the disk and see the volume but they will not load. I have checked
drivers and they are supposedly good. Seems to be just a standard
Microsoft Driver. All means of testing says they are working perfectly,
but I know better. I've tried through Windows help and numerous other
sites but my problem is unheard of.

I took it to my local computer repair shop and they couldn't fix it.

All help appreciated.

Some folks with the same issue had success with the fix taken from the below MS-KB. Although this KB is not for your issue as per description, you should follow the same fix in them.

Again I am saying to you that some people with the exact same issue had success with this fix even though this fix is described for another issue altogether.

Please post back with result..

Thanks for reply, but for some reason I didn't understand the "fix taken
from the below MS-KB." Is something missing?

What do you mean by refused to run? Can you not explorer a CD / DVD placed
in one? Or is it the autorun that doesn't work? What types of CDs/DVDs?
Can you burn files on them?

I don't know what article he forgot to include. Maybe one of these will
help though.

CD repair for XP:
http://aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip

Also try the following. You should back up the registry before making
changes:

Click Start, Run, type Regedit, click OK.
Locate this Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]
Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the
data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot

Thanks all. Still working on it.
