DVD Burning newbie

Hi, I need a lot of help. I just bought Emachine (T3265) with DVD+/-RW. I have NEVER burned a CD or DVD. How do I do this? I have the software Roxio Easy CD & DVD creator 6 on my computer. I was told that I would probably have to buy a different software. Any suggestions? Please keep it low in price, spent all my tax money on this computer. :) I want to make back up copies of my dvd movies and also make home made DVD's off my Digital Camcorder. Any help out there for a very, very inexperieced DVD burner wanaby. I need to know what blank DVD's and CD's to purchase also. Any help would be useful, the simplier the better. Thank you.

I see others have pointed you in the direction to get general help in
understanding how to use your burner. I thought I'd mention a thing or two
regarding software.

The Roxio software you have will handle most all your burning needs with the
exception of making backup copies of your DVD movies. That's where you need
additional software. It seems the most popular is DVDXcopy (of which there
are, I think, 2 or 3 different versions) and DVDXcopy EXPRESS (1 version).
This software retails for around $80 to $120, depending on which version you
buy.

HOWEVER, I heard on the news this week that a Federal judge somewhere has
issued an injunction (I'm not sure if that's the correct legal term) against
the manufacturers of DVD copying software. Specifically, the news report
indicated that the makers of DVDXcopy were in the process of pulling their
products off store shelves. An appeal has been filed, but I'd suggest that
if you do want to get software that you go in search of it immediately (if
it's still out there).
