I've been using Vista and Windows mail since February with no problem. But
today I encountered a problem. When I download my email, I get the first 5
or six messages over and over and get an error message that it can't receive
the remaining 8 messages.

Any idea what the problem might be? I haven't made any changes since
setting it up.
Thanks

A corrupt message?

Log on to the web site of your Mail Provider and read all of those other 8
messages, then delete the lot.

HTH?

I don't think the problem is a corrupt message ... why would 5 -8 now be
corrupt? If I keep downloading my mail, eventually I get one or two more,
but still get error messages for the rest. And why is it downloading
messages I've already received and opened?

I don't like webmail, so I don't want to have to go to another mail server
to get my messages. Kinda defeats the purpose of having Windows mail,
doesn't it?

Thanks for your response ... I do appreciate it!

The first 5 or 6 are okay, but the next is corrupt and WinMail can't
download it. Use webmail to delete the corrupt message.

The way POP mail works, the mail client waits until all messages
are successfully downloaded before it tells the server to delete
the server's copy of those messages. Since your download stalls
before successful completion, nothing gets deleted from the server,
and the next time you connect, the same messages will download again.

This problem can only be fixed by finding and deleting the corrupted
message on he server.

Steve and Frank,

That makes sense ... thank you both very much!

And fortunately the problem seems to have corrected itself but it took all
day to do it.
Maybe it was a problem with the server? Whatever the cause, it's working
now but I do appreciate your input.
