Duplicate Personal Folders

Hello,

I have the well documented duplicate folder problem. I have followed the
instructions offered (check what pst file email is being delivered to, right
click and close folder, etc.) but i've had no luck getting rid off it. The
thing is that there is actually only one pst file, not two. Indeed, my email
is being delivered to outlook.pst, and if i check the properties for both
folders, they are both "outlook.pst" So in essence, one pst, two displays of
the same file. Any ideas as to what i can do to get rid off the duplicate
shortcuts?

Hello Group:
I also have this problem. I am running Windows XP and Outlook 2003. There
are two sets of Personal Folders with exactly the same set of shortcuts. I
can select Inbox from either group to display my email. Like Matthieu, I
have tried all the remedies found in the newsgroups and MSDN to no avail. I
would really like to get rid of the 2nd set of folders. Thanks, Vik.

Please do not reply to the email address since it is my MSDN alias.

I also have this problem after moving an Outlook 2002 pst file to Outlook
2003. Two folders in the list with the same name, both pointing to the exact
same data file "mirror images" of each other. The only difference appears to
be the icon, one is the Home icon, on just a folder. Unable to close the
duplicate folder, get the error message "Operation failed. An object could
not be found."

driving me nuts. Help.

This is a symptom of a orrupted profile and is usually caused by copying a
PST over the top of another PST of the same name or renaming a PST out of a
profile and renaming another PST to the same name as the original. You fix
it by creating a new profile (Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles>New)

I erased my old email profile and created a new one but that still did not
solve the problem. I'm guessing i'll have to create a new pst along with the
new profile, is that right? If that is the case, how do i move my old data
into the new pst so that i can then erase the old one and have only one pst?

Any help would be appreciated.

No. You shouldn't have to create a new PST. How did you create the
profile? You should have used Control Panel>Mail>Show Profiles>New. Is
that what you did?

Open the old PST with File>Open>Outlook Data File. Drag-and-drop what you
want to move. It shouldn't be necessary, though.

Okay, I finally got it right and erased my profile, created a new
one, tweaked with Outlook and got everything back to normal...or so
i thought. Problem is, now outlook does not recognize my adress book.
My contacts are all there with their email addresses, but when i
click on the "to" button my adress book is empty. Any thoughts as to
how i can fix this?

Yup. Either the Outlook Address Book service is disabled or you need to add
it back into your profile.

Right-click on your Contacts folder and choose Properties. Click the
Outlook Address Book tab. If the "Show this folder as an e-mail Address
Book" box is unchecked, but not grayed out, check it. If it's grayed out,
close the properties window and click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Add a new
directory or address book>Next. Select "Additional Address Books" and click
Next. Select "Outlook Address Book" and click Next. I'm not sure what the
next window will say, but it will probably contain a Finish button, Click
it. Go back to step one on the Contacts property page and finish the job.
