Duplicate Machine Name is the Server

I have a Windows 2000 network. 1 Server. Someone loaded
a 3Com program which added a virtual adapter. The Virtual
adapter took the IP address of the real nic and gave the
nic a address from dhcp.

This caused many problems. Upon removing the 3Com
program, the virtual adapter and giving the ip address
back to the nic, I get errors saying there are duplicate
machine names for the server. This causes DNS not to load
as well as active directory.

How can I fix this?

See the registry entry at tip 62 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsiinc.com
If OptionalNames exist, delete this Value Name and restart the server.
Also, see tip 8062.
