Brian

If this is not posted in the right area I apologize in advance, I am
not familiar in posting to these groups.

I just purchased a new Dell computer that includes a Media Center
Enhancements Dual TV Tuner. My Internet/TV provider and Dell will not
provide any support other that ' Use a Google Group to find the
answer.'

My problem is two-fold:

1. First I do not have enough knowledge to know what questions to ask
even if they did support it.
2. My currently service provider uses one main digital decoder with
three remotes, all three remotes are in use at this time for other
TV's.

The video card has a coax connection on the back to allow for the video
feed. Is there some type of converter or remote device that I could
purchase to connect the card?

Can anyone point me to a site or provide me with a list of questions
that I can ask other to try and resolve this problem?

Thank you in advance - Brian

I gather you have digital service over coaxial cable. I am not aware of
any regulation requiring such providers are to transmit video streams in
any format that wouldn't require their converter box or a PC "CableCard"
to decode. You may need to make arrangements with your cable provider
for a fourth digital outlet and pay additional monthly outlet fees.

The currently available version of "CableCard" allows SOME digital TVs
to receive content from cable companies without an external set top box
BUT is NOT compatible with pay per view, remote DVR capabilities (some
companies call them "On-Demand") that use the cable companies servers or
other services requiring data transmission back to the cable company.
The cards typically have to be acquired from your cable provider and
require activation to work, similar to the smart cards used in satellite
receivers. I don't know if any desktop PC or laptop PC tuners
(including, but not limited to, PCI or USB ones) are compatible with the
current standards for those cards.

You might try the media centre group, although the first question you'll
probably be asked is what kind of tuner you have. The other thing is that
you'll need a set-top box for each tuner as I would expect the tuner in your
computer only accepts a basic cable input.
