A friend asked me this question and I had no answer for him, so I'm hoping I can find some help
here. He has XP Home on his computer and early in the boot-up sequence, he is asked to choose
between 2 operating systems - as if there were a dual-boot installation on his computer. The 2
choices are 1) Windows XP Home Edition, and 2) Windows XP Home Edition. He has ONLY Windows XP
Home Edition installed. Let me be very clear about that. How or why that "choice" must be made
is beyond me. It gives him 30 seconds to choose and if no choice is made, it "defaults" to XP
Home.
I watched this sequence a couple times, and then pressed F8 at the appropriate moment which took
me to an "advanced options" menu. None of the choices seemed to apply - there was no reference
to any dual-boot setup. These are the choices offered:
1) Safe mode
2) Safe mode with networking
3) Safe mode with Command Prompt
4) Enable boot logging
5) Enable VGA mode
6) Last known good configuration
7) Directory services restore mode
8) Debugging mode
9) Start Windows normally
10) Reboot
11) Return to OS choices menu
I selected "reboot" and just let the computer do its thing. I suppose there's no harm being
done, but it's an annoyance he'd like to be rid of. Can anyone suggest how to get rid of this
"dual-boot" choice which really does not exist?
Thanks for any help.
