Hi,
I have 2 harddisk drives, one with WindowsXP and the other with Windows2000.

Can I just modify the boot.ini file to allow me to select which operating
system to use during boot? If not, what do I need to do without having to
re-install one of the operating system?

Thanks

Need some details. Were the OS's installed to the drives independently? If
so you'll need to reinstall one of the OS's or use a third party boot
manager.

Yes, the OS's were installed independently.

What boot manager do you recommend?

Thanks

You really don't need a boot manager if you're
comfortable with resetting just one parameter in
the BIOS. Since both OSes were installed
independently (not visible to each other at the
time of installation and 1st boot-up), each
thinks that it is the only booting OS. You can
control which of them boots by putting the HD
that contains the desired OS as the 1st HD to
check in the BIOS's boot sequence. To make
the other OS boot, just reverse their relative
order in the boot sequence.
