i have sbc dsl. lately i haven't been able to log on to
the internet. DSL has told me that i have a problem with
my operating system, which is windows xp professional. We
tried to ipconfig/renew and ipconfing/release and it is
reading an error message. dsl believes that the operating
system is not reading the ip address. which is 192.168.0.1
please help me troubleshoot this problem. thank you.

Usaually a 192 ip address means your being blocked by a firewall or router,
or your configured for a LAN.
Please provide more details about your setup and firewall / router status.

The IP address you have given is usually a router. Your address at the ISP
can be one of two types; dynamic or static. If your IP address is dynamic,
it will change with each session, and your router will get it from the ISP's
DHCP server. If your ISP has assigned you a static IP, then that IP address
will have to be entered into the router's setup so that it will always
connect to the ISP with that IP address.

Your ISP *SHOULD* be able to provide support for such a simple problem as
you have. If not, I would look for another ISP. If you are using AOL, then
I would definitely recommend a different ISP.
