I connect to my modem with USB , I am having trouble connecting, so I called
my ISP (sbc) we did all the tests .
They had me do ipconfig/ renew
I get Windows ip configuration an internal error occurred:
A device attached to the system is not functioning

Please contact Microsoft product support services
for further help Additional information:
unkown media status code

What is this and how do I fix it ? (sbc has no idea)
All my other usb stuff is working fine.

Obvious question: Are you sure the modem is working?
To check it out go to another PC and try it.

If the modem is functioning properly then you will have to go back to your
PC and uninstall the Hardware - use Device Manager, click Start > Control
Panel > System, then click on the identify the entry for the Hardware Tab,
press the Device Manager button.
Scroll down to Network Devices and look for the Modem [or it may be under
Modems].
Right click and remove.
If there is 3rd party software that comes along with the modem remove it via
Uninstall Programmes, accessed via Control Panel.

Restart the PC with the modem unattached.

Power up the modem and after a few seconds plug it back into the USB port.
The found nbew device wizard should start and allow you to configure the
modem.

In some cases you may need to install the modem application software before
connecting the modem. Some ISPs have unique requirements, depending on the
modem make and model.

If this doesn't work get back in touch with you ISP and ask for a technician
to call out and configure this. You may need to have further system software
'rebuilt', such as Winsock or TCP/IP stack, but not something that I can give
in this posting.

Did you install the software BEFORE connecting the USB modem? If you
plugged the modem in first, THEN installed the software, that is your
problem.

Unplug the modem from the USB port, uninstall the driver, reboot,
reinstall, THEN plug the modem back into your USB port.

Also, do you have a line filter installed in the modem's phone line? If so,
remove it. You'd be surprised how many people try to do that.
