Hi -

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I recently got dsl hooked up and already having problems connecting. I get
a "page cannot be displayed error" when trying to connect. I've contacted
my ISP which is MCI and they said they can communicate with my modem but I
still can't connect. When I bring up the winipcfg box, it says I have a
169.254.X.X address. I've reinstalled the operating system and network card
to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions or websites that I could try to solve my
problem?

I have Win98 on a Compaq Presario 5070, 8 gig h/d, 284 mb ram, and a linksys
PCI network card. There are no programs or other software installed on the
hard drive.

Thanks in advance,
Newtechie

There should be a cr-rom with the linksys pci card. I have the same card on two of my pc's. Or have a friend go to the linksys web site and download the drivers for the card..good luck,

I have the disk for the card and it installs fine. Thanks for your response
but that's not the problem.

Hello
Go to your Device Manager and make sure your network card is installed and
the appropriate protocol's are installed(Microsoft Family Logon, TCP/IP).
Next go to Start>Control Panel>Internet Options>Connection Tab remove any
dialup connections that appear in the dialup box then click on setup button
and run the setup wizard be sure to set up your connection manually and
connect to a server that is always on.

Having reinstalled XP and also the NIC drivers, the only
two logical answers are issue with modem config or
hardware isse with the NIC.
