Hi
I am running windows xp sp2 and my husband has windows 2k.
Yesterday we finally! got dsl installed. We are networked and both
able to be online at the same time, but while he can download email,
all I get is an error message "an error occurred with the POP3 mail
server. Mail server pop.xxx.xxx responded:" and that is it. I have tried
everything I can possibly think of to fix this situation, but no luck.
Any of you brains have any ideas for me?
Please!
tia, Liz

You would need to check with your ISP for the settings you'll need for your
POP3 account.

What E-mail client software are you using? Have you set it up properly with
the correct pop2 server name?

Are you both using the same email address? if yes, then copy EXACTLY what
is in the win2k. Pay attention to the pop3 stuff. you never mentioned if
you can send email. If you have established a new email address for you on
the same account, you must log into your isp and create an email account for
you under the master account typically. (assuming they allow multiple
emails)

Sorry for the typo. I mean POP3, of course.
Yes, everything was working fine until the dsl was installed. I have
checked and rechecked my settings -
they are identical to the settings on my husband's computer. I am using
Thunderbird 1.0, and he is using
Netscape 7.1. But I also tried to get the email through Netscape and
Outlook, and have the same problem.
There is no error number.

We are both using the same email address. It is one that we
have had for a while. I can send mail through the same server.
Our settings are identical, and have not changed from before dsl
when everything worked for me.

How are your firewall and antivirus setup?

My firewall is set to allow traffic through Thunderbird and I disabled the
virus checker at one point with the same result.

And aslo when did it all start this problem!! Is it a new XP system and
so the account you have setup is also new? etc etc.

Your IP when posting here points to sherbtel.net, AKA izoom.net
(https://mail.izoom.net/login.php). Is the email account a
(e-mail address removed) account? Have you tried using (e-mail address removed) instead?

Are you getting the same error when trying to access with account (address)
in Outlook? Post the complete error message.

If you bypass the network and connect directly to the modem (bypassing the
router), does the problem persist?

So far I don't have an izoom.net mail account. For some reason they have not
gotten around to getting it set up yet. What I am trying to do is access
my email
account provided by my dial-up isp which I have not yet cancelled. If I
bypass the dsl
all together I have no trouble downloading the messages on dial-up,
but I can't download them when online through dsl. My husband's
computer, however,
has no problem. Even bypassing the router and connecting directly to the
dsl modem
I cannot get the messages.
When I try with Outlook Express the error message I get is
"The server responded with an error. Account: 'popmail.tds.net', Server:
'popmail.tds.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy
Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90"
Thanks for your attention

Search for your error code brought of these two sites.

Are you trying to get mail from your DSL email address or your old address?
From the old address. Today I connected via dial-up and was able
to download my messages as usual. Then I tried it via dsl and lo and
behold! it
worked. I have no idea why, but it is still working. Thanks for your help.

If I connect to dialup or am connected to DSL, I can get my mail.
I use Outlook Express, but its' settings are do not connect.

If you want to send mail using your old address, you may have to use the old
SMTP setting.
