Hi,

I have made my first word form and have run into a number of teething
problems since replies have started coming in. At the moment I have just
resolved the issue of extracting data from a dropdown and writing it to a
table in another word doc. Unfortunately I am now having a problem with some
other dropdowns which do not appear to have any identification (when I
select the properties there is no bookmark name) Is there any way to
reference these unnamed items?

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Are you talking about Dropdown form fields? If so, the default bookmark for
these would be Dropdown1, Dropdown2, etc., but you can change the bookmark
in the Form Field Options dialog.

Hi Suzanne,

It is with dropdown form fields. I have searched the list of bookmarks
(using the goto command, and tried typing in manually from dropdown1
to dropdown 10). When I unprotect the document and chceck the
properties the 'drop-down enabled' option is ticked, but there is no
name in the bookmark section.

Thanks for helping,

Phil

Enter the bookmark name directly in the Form Field Options dialog. It
doesn't have to be Dropdown1, etc.; as long as you're naming the fields
yourself, you may as well give them more meaningful names. The reason they
don't have bookmarks to begin with is probably that you used Copy/Paste to
insert the form fields; when you do that, the second and subsequent fields
have no built-in bookmark.

Thanks again Suzanne, I may have just done the copy/paste. Is there any way
of identifying a dropdown created in this manner?

No way that I know of except by opening the Form Field Options to see if it
has a bookmark.

Not sure if I'm understanding your question correctly, but if I am, you do realize you can just go into the field properties by double-clicking it and type your own bookmark name into the bookmark space right? From then on the field is identified by that name and you can do whatever you like to reference it as such.
