Drop down window in XP

I recently had to reload Win XP Pro. Now there is a little box that sits on
the screen. You click on it and a drop down window shows up with 3 pictures.
This little window is worthless to me. Can anyone here tell me how to make it
go away forever?

Can you provide more imformation about the box. What do the icons look like
and is there any descriptive text on the box or icons at all?
 
Its called Works portfolio. My guess it is a short cut to what ever pictures
you load into it. I only use My Pictures.
The thing about this portfolio is, it shows up in front of any window you
open so if you need to read something you have to redock it somewhere else.

I believe you can just right-click on it and close it.
