Drop down menus and popup menus not working properly

I incur occasionally in this unusual problem: the drop-down and popup menus,
(right clicks etc) will not show unless I go over the location where they
should be with the mouse and even then not the whole thing appears. What mey
be causing this? Is it the video driver? Can I end and restart the process?
So far the only solution has been (obviously) to reboot. Any suggestions?

Whenever I've seen this, it was due to a fault in the display drivers. A
restart is the only immediate fix that I know of. Other things to think
about:

-Check for updated drivers for your display adapter. Updated drivers are
usually more efficient and may clear up odd little problems such as this.

-Consider changing settings to something less demanding. Simpler rendering
should mean less redraw problems. System properties> Advanced> Performance>
Setting: Visual Effects. Either change to "best performance" or use Custom
and manually select effects.

Suggestion: Use your current settings as a starting point. Start unchecking
effects that are currently enabled until you reach a point where the
invisible menus do not appear. Or use "best performance" as the base and
start adding items one at a time.

Thank you for your reply. I have mistakenly posted the question on the XP
forum when I currently run WIN 2000. I do not have the options you have
mentioned, but I will go down the driver update path. Thank you again.

You're welcome, Mike.
