Drop down boxes in IE explorer are blank in XP Pro

Every web page I go to will not display any text or choices in drop-down
boxes. I was hit by a bad series of trojans last week and this is some of
the fallout after clearing my system. Thanks in advance for you help. I
can't post this in any particular discusion because I can't see the choices.

isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) computer repair shop.

sysdm.dll will not run. i tried changing to Classic view and xp back and
forth. These suggestions didn't solve problem.
 
I ran both as u suggested plus Kaspersky. All of them picked up infections
but didn't fix the problem. I was running AVG at the time of infection but
was ineffective. My wife was looking for Irish recipees and she clicked on
something and wow an explosion of popups and it completely took over my
browser and search engines. It wouldn't let me run any removal tools ecxcept
SpyNo More. Everything appears ok now but the dropdown menu problem.
 
I did try your suggestion ( microsoft support 831430) And found that
kaspersky AV is the default value when it should be JSCRIPT.DLL.. I did not
edit as yet. I'm a little cautious here.

Try these:

1. Open Internet Options, Programs tab, click "Reset Web Settings".

2. Open Internet Options, Programs tab, click "Manage Add-ons" and
disable any add-on that you don't know its function. You can also do
the same thig this way, as a test:

3. Open Start menu, click All Programs, Accessories, Communications, and
in the IE folder, select "IE with no Add-ons" or a similar feature. I'm
not sure where it's located either.. but somewhere there should be an IE
folder with that option.

4. For Jscript Errors, you might look through the suggestions on this
web site:

You might try these first though.

Repair 5.6 Scripting Engine install:

Click, Start, Run, type

Regsvr32 vbscript.dll

Click OK

Click Start, Run, type

5. Open the run command and type these command one-by-one and click
[OK]. You can copy paste them, one-at-a-time into the Run pane.

Export the key to the desktop before changing the value, if you're
hesitant to make changes to the registry. Just highlight the key, click
File, Export, name and direct the file. That looks like it could be
one of your problems..
 
I followed your suggestions and ran the dll's. All ran successfully except
mushtml.dll. Dropdown menus remain invisible.

I ran another kaspersky scan. 'HEUR: trojan. Win32. generic' keeps
regenerating. I think i will have to contact Kaspersky also. I have some
cleanup to do. thanks I will take all your suggestions to task.
