Driver won't install

I have a Supermicro P4SCT+II and I need to update the Adaptec onboard RAID
drivers. However, when I go through the upgrade device driver wizard, it
gets stuck just before it looks like it is about to finish (the progress bar
gets right to the very end but then just sits there. Looking in the task
manager, it makes the
system process use up 50% of the CPU. Then when the system restarts, it
gets stuck on the Windows splashscreen and i have to use the previous known
good configuration to roll the drivers back to the previous version. I have
got this driver to work on several other identical systems so I know the
driver works.

Is there anyway of getting round this problem? All Windows XP updates have
been installed.

Hi,
Prior to starting the setup, close down as many program or processes as
possible. The setup may be conflicting with other programs or processes.
You may have to close programs such as anti-virus and spyware programs while
installing.

Thank you for you quick reply. I just tried that and unfortunately it still
got stuck whilst updating. The only processes I left open were the ones
which I googled and found they were vital. These are the processes I left
running:

alg.exe
csrss.exe
explorer.exe
lsass.exe
mscorsvw.exe
nvsvc32.exe
sd3service.exe
services.exe
smss.exe
spoolsv.exe
svchost.exe x 5 (3 x system, 2 x network service)
system
system idle process
winlogon.exe

would closing any of these help matters?

Hi,
I was famaliar with all of the services you left running except for the
SD3Service.exe. If you don't know what this service is for, try closing it
and try again. The others shouldn't be causing a problem.

Hope this helps!
