I am running xp home SP2 and was wondering how to update my hardware
drivers. I did what it says in the Knowledge Base article but all it does is
take you to the new SP2 express Install or custom install search/scan
engine.

When I try to install a driver manually I am asked if I would like Microsoft
to check for updated driver but when I click on this option nothing happens
and I am returned to being asked to search for the relevant driver from a
disk or other place on my PC

I know that there are many updates for my hardware as I have been to a
couple of the manafacturers support sites and found that there are newer
drivers although not all of them have passed the WHQL testing.

Is there an easier way of updating drivers as it would take forever
searching around individual sites.

Says
The best place to start is the Microsoft Windows Update Web site:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

Click Scan for updates in the left column, and then click Driver Updates.

There is no easy way.
You need to look at the individual sites for the latest Windows XP
drivers.
You are normally better off getting the drivers directly from the
manufacturer and not Microsoft.

Manufacturers need to pay Microsoft for the WHQL testing. Not all choose to
do so for driver updates for older hardware. If you know the source {your
OEM or the hardware manufacturer}, then IMO you should trust the driver even
without WHQL testing.
