When I start to install XP I get the error message

IA Bus Master IDE Driver
=========================
The currently installed driver for this device is not compatible with this
version of Microsoft Windows and will be disabled during the upgrade.

But I don't really know what i'm looking for or what device its talking
about!

Hi, Denise.

Most computers these days have the IDE controller built into the mainboard
of the computer. WinXP includes drivers for practically all of them, but
yours may be an exception. This is most likely if your computer is very
old, very new, or very unusual.

We would have a better chance to help you if you tell us the make and model
of your computer, or of the mainboard if you built the computer yourself.

According to aida 32 it's:
Motherboard Name: Shuttle AV61 (2 ISA, 5 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DIMM)
Motherboard Chipset: VIA VT82C693A Apollo Pro133.
So can I still install XP?
thanks

You have a ide controller (misnomer) driver installed that is specific to
the OS you upgraded from. Its made by Intel. You may know it as
application accelerator on the prior operating system. Nothing is broken,
if that is your concern.

Hi, Denise.

I've never had a Shuttle mainboard, so I'm not sure just what you need next.
If nobody pops in here soon with some specific tips, you might want to post
a new message, including that info - perhaps even putting something like
"Shuttle AV61 driver?" in the Subject line.

You might find help more quickly at Shuttle's home page:
http://us.shuttle.com/

Navigate through the Support pages to:
http://www.shuttle.com/hq/support/download/dwn.asp

You might need to flash a newer version of the BIOS, or you might need the
VIA 4-in-1 package, or ??

Another good source of peer-to-peer hels would be the Usenet newsgroup
alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.shuttle, where you should find lots of other
Shuttle users, some quite expert.

Many thanks, will have a look.

Dunno. From your response to another individual, it appears you have a VIA
chipset on the motherboard. IA was not meant for only Intel chipset
oriented motherboards.
