I'm trying to help a friend install her older MS optical usb/ps2 wheel mouse
on her new XP laptop. I plugged it into a usb port and no power went to the
mouse. The only XP driver that I could find on the MS site is the
IntelliPoint 5.0 driver/software. After going partially through the
installation, a warning came up stating that this install may cause other
mouse functions not to operate properly (like the touch pad on her laptop?)
so I aborted the install. Any suggestions? I would have thought that the XP
install would already have the drivers for these mice. Would there be a
driver on the XP disc that wasn't installed? I'm trying to help her with a
few things on her new laptop to get her up to speed but I can't stand the
touch pad mouse!

Thanks,
Len

Look at the USB port settings in the BIOS and device
manager.

Yes, and whether power is always on and what conflicts you
might see.

You might be well advised to use the tech support from the
laptop mfg'r to see what they say about adding additional
devices and any known conflicts. That is part of the
purchase price.

| Am I looking to see if the usb ports are enabled?
