Hi,'
Don't know where to post this so I'll start here.
I have always used DI-4 on my desktop Windows 98 SE'
Recently purchased a new laptop, Windows XP PRO, so I purchased DriveImage 7
,originally by Powerquest now owned by Symantec and discontinued (product)
for their product GHOST 9 which is really DriveImage 7(supposedly improved).

Well, like I always do I checked for updates for DriveImage 7 and downloaded
what was supposed to be the update from V7.0 to 7.03 but instead of updating
DI 7, would you believe the so called update "UNINSTALLED" the program ?

Any suggestions for a good imaging program.

Thankfully with the rebates upon purchase I ended up paying for GI 7 what it
is really worth. $ 0.00 (NOTHING)

Acronis TrueImage is the best I've used and over the years I've used Norton
Ghost 3 up to and including version 9, Drive Image 3 up to and including
Drive Image 7 (beta tested for Powerquest at one time) , Image for Windows,
and several other products including Backup MyPC and XP Pro's ASR.

Acronis TrueImage is excellent. It can be scheduled, runs in the background
while I continue to work, creates full or incremental backups, creates a
bootable CD if I need to run it from CD and the list goes on. I had my
Windows 2003 backup server crash last week and did a restore in under 10
minutes.
Do a google search for the name.

Don't even think of purchasing anything from Symantec. They not only
included "activation" as an added goodie, but also require the bloated
..NET Framework to be installed before Ghost 9 (AKA Drive Image 7.X)
will even work.

Go to www.acronis.com and take a look at True Image. Works great. No
activation, no .NET Framework, no fuss, no cuss. I use it to back up
my desktops and one notebook computer. There are other imaging
programs available, but in my opinion, True Image is the best and
easiest to use.

What's wrong with DI-7? Can't you re-install it?

DI 7 w/o the update patch to 7.03 should run fine. I never had a
problem without the patch and am not sure what the patch corrected.

I have heard good things about Acronis True Image and BootItNG.

Mel,

I had DI v7.0 and upgraded that (a while back) to v 7.01 - that upgrade removed
version 7.0 and installed a completely new setup for 7.01 that's
probably what's going on in your case.

Fred

All the update did in my case was to ubunstall 7.0..never saw another setup
icon. Searched the programss and could not find another Drive Image. Are you
possibly suggestging that I should again re-install the original 7.0 ?

Where was your new setup icon ? Did you get a notice to use the new set up ?

I just tried to use the update setup again and got the message it was an
update and DI should be installed first ?/// weird

Med,

OK, it might just be that it could not do an update on the fully operational DI
7 and might need a clean install of v7, followed immediately by installing the
update.

Give that a try and cancel any request by DI after the initial install to
restart, do the upgrade then restart if necessary.
