Drive Letters Disappear

I have had an infrequent and unreproducable problem as of late: some users
have been complaining of drive letters disappearing. When I check their
system, I can connect to the share by UNC path but the drive letter is
missing. We use batch file scripts to map drive letters to shares. We do
not use the Persistent switch. The script disconnects all network drive
letters then reconnects them.

I have enabled local policies to Alway Wait for Network at Startup or Logon
but even with this enabled, any network share drive letter will disappear.

Any help figuring this out will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Robert. I did a Google for "mapped drives disappear" and got quite a
few links that might be helpful. Some of the causes mentioned was
licensing and also number of computers accessing the server. You didn't
say what any of your operating systems are, but XP Home can only have 5
concurrent connections, XP Pro can only have 10. Forgive me if you
already know this (I'm not trying to be rude, but do want to be
thorough), but "concurrent connections" does not mean necessarily that
10 *computers* can connect at one time; one computer could be making
multiple connections. If you have a server operating system, make sure
your licensing is correct.

If none of the above helps, then do check out the links you'll get by
Googling with the search term mentioned.

Good luck,

Malke
